Dawn Day 2 God, You are my God

Day 2 brought with it some cravings...at first for Diet Dr. Pepper, for watermelon (Heather and I both have a fondness for fruit), and for the instant gratification that our society has taught all of us in America to expect and to be annoyed by when we have to wait on something.

As I waited past cravings and prepared my chicken and spinach salad, poured my sugar free coffee, I realized that this is how our spiritual lives work as well. When our souls are empty we rush to fill it up with what is right there- ready and quick- such as social media, a t.v. show, a trip to Target.  All the while what is best for us requires us to thoughtfully choose it.

Psalm 63 spoke to me this morning during my quiet time:

"God, You are my God:  I eagerly seek You.  I thirst for You; my body faints for You in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water.  So I gaze on You in the sanctuary to see Your strength and Your glory.  My lips will glorify You because Your faithful love is better than life.  So I will praise You as long as I live; at Your name, I will lift up my hands.  You satisfy me as with rich food; my mouth will praise You with joyful lips." - Psalm 63: 1-5

On a side note - I ended up losing two pounds in two days - even better I gained some insight into spiritual fast food behaviors that I need to curb.

Sincerely,
Dawn
